Fish- 1 kg
Gambooge/Kudampuli – 3
Ginger -a large piece
Garlic -13 pods
Shallots/Chuvannulli- 7
Curry leaves- 4 sprig
Kashmeeri chilly powder – 2.5 tablespoon
Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Turmeric powder- 1/4 teaspoon
Coriander powder-1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Asafoetida powder – a pinch
Coconut oil – as required
Salt-to taste

Cut the fish into medium pieces, wash well and set aside.

In a claypot add fish pieces, tamarind, curry leaves and keep aside.

Heat coconut oil in a pan add mustard seeds wait till it crackles.

Now, add fenugreek seeds, curry leaves and saute for few seconds.

Add in chopped ginger, garlic, shallots and saute well until shallots turns slightly brown in colour.

Bring down the flame to low.

Add kashmeeri chilly powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder ,asafoetida powder and saute in a low flame.

Add enough water, salt and bring to boil it.

Add this boiled water to the fish pieces and mix well.

Cover and cook in a medium flame for about 15 minutes.

Uncover, drizzle 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and rotate the clay pot to mix oil evenly.

Turn off the flame now.
