Ingredients
Fish- 1 kg, medium sized pieces
Gambooge/cocum/Kudampuli – 3 pods
Ginger -a large piece, finely chopped
Garlic -14 pods, chopped
Curry leaves- 4 sprig
Kashmeeri chilly powder – 2.5 tablespoon
Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Turmeric powder- 1/4 teaspoon
Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Coconut oil – as required
Salt-to taste
Clean the fish, cut into medium pieces, wash well and set aside.
Soak washed tamarind in little water and set aside.
Heat coconut oil in a pan add mustard seeds wait till it crackles.
Now, add fenugreek seeds, curry leaves and saute for few seconds.
Add in chopped or crushed ginger, garlic and saute well until shallots turns slightly brown in colour.
Bring down the flame to low.
Add kashmeeri chilly powder, turmeric powder and saute in a low flame.
Add enough water and salt to it.
Add kudampuli with water and bring to boil.
Once started boiling add fish pieces to this.
Cover and cook in a medium flame for about 15 minutes.
Remove the cover drizzle 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and rotate the clay pot to mix oil evenly in the gravy.
Turn off the flame now.
