Most of the food here are made keeping the Indian Palette in consideration to keep the recipe as authentic as possible, although these foods may be what any South Asian may relish. It’s important to keep in mind the spices used must be taken into account by the viewer and cook according to their threshold, preference and health conditions.
With that out of the way, today we will see how to prepare
Avalakki Upma/Avalakki Oggarane

Ingredients:
Avalakki/Rice flakes/Flattened rice/Poha : 2 cups
Oil :2 tbsp
Mustard :1/2 tsp
Blackgram dal :1 tsp
Bengalgram dal :1 tsp
Groundnuts :1/2 cup.
Asafatida :less than 1/4 tsp
Turmeric :1/2 tsp
Onion :3 medium sized
Tomatoes :2
Green chilies :4
Salt to taste :1 to 11/2 tsp
Procedure:
Take a pan, add oil and heat it up. Once the oil is heated add mustard, bengal gram dal, black gram dal and ground nuts and saute till the ground nuts are roasted completely. To this add turmeric and asafetida and mix well. Now add finely chopped onions and saute till the onions become transparent. Add finely chopped tomatoes and mix well and cook till the tomatoes are cooked softly. To this add salt and finely chopped coriander leaves and mix well. To this add soaked poha and mix well. Close the lid and simmer for 5 mins and serve hot.
