This Asian Tacos with Crispy Tofu & Homemade Onion Paratha is better than takeout – Must Try Recipe!

I tried Asian tacos, or Shanghai tacos, at a Vietnamese restaurant, and I was hooked on the crispy textures, bold flavors, and unique mix of sauces and veggies!

Today, I’m recreating that experience with crispy tofu and homemade onion parathas. These tacos are loaded with spicy chili garlic mayo, hoisin sauce, crunchy veggies, and crispy tofu, all wrapped in flaky parathas.

It tastes almost like the one I had at the restaurant! Perfect for dinner or when you’re craving something different.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Makes: 8 Tacos

Onion Paratha
1 bunch spring onions
2 cups whole wheat flour
Dry flour for dusting and rolling
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon oil or ghee
Water, as needed for kneading
Oil or ghee for rolling and roasting

For Crispy Tofu
400 grams firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
Salt, to taste
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Water, as needed
Breadcrumbs, for coating
Oil for frying

For Hoisin Sauce Topping
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon sesame seeds

For Chili Garlic Mayonnaise
1/3 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons sriracha sauce (adjust to taste)
2 garlic cloves, grated
1 tablespoon lemon juice

For Tacos
Warm onion parathas
Crispy fried tofu
Hoisin sauce
Chili garlic mayonnaise
Lettuce of your choice
Carrot juliennes
A handful of seed sprouts
Sesame seeds
Fresh red chili, sliced
Lemon/lime wedges
Fresh cilantro
Greens, thinly sliced, for garnish
