Perfect Gothambu Payasam / Nurukku Gothambu Payasam/VISHU SPECIAL

Description :

Ingredients:
Broken wheat – 200g (Soaked for 2 hours)
Chana dal – 1 handful
Jaggery – 450g
Thick coconut milk – 1½ glass
Thin coconut milk
Ghee
Coconut bits
Cardamom powder – ¼ tbsp / Cardamom – 10 (powdered)
Cumin powder – ½ tbsp / Cumin seeds – 2 tbsp (powdered)

Steps:
Pressure cook chana dal adding ½ cup water and a piece of jaggery, for one whistle on high flame.

Add wheat and 2 cups of water to a pan and cook covered.
Drain the water once it’s cooked. Keep aside.

Malt jaggery in 1½ glass water.
Strain the jaggery syrup, if it has any impurities.

Dry roast cumin seeds and powder it.

Heat a thick bottomed pan or uruli.
Add 4 tbsp ghee and cooked wheat.
Mix well for 5 minutes.
Add jaggery syrup and cooked chana dal along with the water.
Let it boil and the water gets evaporated.
Add thin coconut milk and continue cooking, stirring continuously.
Once it boils, add 2 pinches of salt.
Once it starts thickening, add thick coconut milk and stir well.
Add cardamom powder and cumin powder. Mix well.
Let it boil well.
Switch off.

Fry coconut pieces in 3 tbsp ghee and add it to the payasam.
Enjoy the gothambu payasam
