NAADAN CHERUPAYAR THORAN || Moong Dal Recipe

Ingredients:
Cherupayar / Green gram – 4 handfuls (Soaked for 5 hours)
Onion – 1 (Thinly sliced)
Ginger – 1 small piece (Crushed)
Green chilly – 2 or 3 (Chopped)
Curry leaves
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Pepper powder – ¼ tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
Dry red chilly
Grated coconut – 3 handfuls
Coconut oil
Salt
Steps:
Pressure cook green gram adding water just to the level of green gram for one whistle and for 10 minutes on medium flame.
Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
Add dry chilly, onion, green chilly, ginger and curry leaves.
Lower the flame. Add turmeric powder and sauté till the raw smell goes.
Add pepper powder and sauté well.
Add cooked green gram, coconut and salt. Mix well.
Push the contents to the center and cook covered on low flame for 5 minutes.
Switch off.
Serve the cherupayar thoran with rice and chappathi and kanhi.
Note:
You can also soak in boiled water for 1½ hours and cook.
