How to Make Butter Chicken at Home EPISODE:151

Ingredients:
Chicken – ½ kg (I used boneless chicken)
Paste 1:
Onion – 2 (Finely chopped)
Tomato – 2 (Chopped)
Paste 2:
Tomato – 1 big
Paste 3:
Cashew nut – 1 handful
Almonds – 1 handful (Soaked and deskinned)

Whole pepper – ½ tsp
Bay leaf – 2
Cinnamon – 1 small piece
Mace – 1 small piece
Cloves – 8
Cardamom – 12
Star anise – 1

Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Red chilly powder / Kashmiri chilly powder – As per taste
Kasoori methi
Heavy cream / Whipping cream / Cooking cream
Butter – 2 tbsp
Salt
Oil

Steps:
Powder the whole spices except bay leaves.
Marinate chicken with salt, ¾ of ground spices and red chilly powder.
Cover and let it rest.

Heat oil in a pan to make Paste 1.
Add onion and saute till golden.
Add a pinch of turmeric powder.
Remove and set aside.

Add tomato to the pan.
Add some salt.
Cover and cook till the tomatoes are done.
Switch off and remove from the pan.
Make a paste of sauteed onion and tomatoes adding some lukewarm water.

Add tomato along with some water to a pan to make Paste 2.
Cover and cook till the tomatoes are done.
Remove and deskin the tomato.
Make a paste of it without adding water.

Make Paste 3 out of badam and cashew nuts adding some water.

Heat butter in a pan.
Add chicken.
Cover and cook the chicken.
When the chicken gets cooked, add Paste 1 of onion and tomato.
Mix well.
Add paste 3 of cashew nut and badam.
Mix well. Cover and cook on medium flame for 10 minutes or till the oil separates.
Then add Paste 2.
Add rest of the ground spices and bay leaves.
Add crushed kasoori methi.
Mix well.
Cover and cook on medium flame for 5 minutes.
Add heavy cream and mix well.
You can add red food color if you prefer.

  • Mia! For a non-Hindi speaker, I learned more from you about Indian cooking than any other cooking show or youtube recipes. For that I thank you to the moon and back. However, I know this isn't your problem, but I was wondering if it would not be too much trouble for you to put in the ingredients in English. Some spices I can guess, like coriander and fenugreek leaves, but others are a bit tough to guess. Just a request! Again, Thank you thank you thank you 🙂
