Easy Onion Chutney(for idli,dosa,Rice)
Description :
Ingredients:
Onion – 2 medium (Chopped)
Tomato – 1 big (Chopped)
Dry red chilly – To taste
Kashmiri red chilly – To taste (Optional)
Whole pepper – 1½ tsp
Chana dal – 1½ tsp
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Ginger – 1 big piece
Garlic – 2 fat cloves
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Curry leaves
Tamarind – Gooseberry sized
Salt
Steps:
Heat a heavy bottomed pan and dry roast pepper, chana dal and urad dal till dals turn golden.
Once it starts to turn golden, remove and set aside.
Dry roast whole red chillies and Kashmiri red chillies.
Remove and set aside.
Add oil to the pan.
Add onion, ginger, garlic and curry leaves.
When the onion starts to turn golden, add turmeric powder. Sauté till the raw smell goes away.
Add the roasted pepper, chana dal, urad dal and chilies.
Add tamarind, to taste. Add tomato and salt.
Cover and cook on medium flame till the tomatoes are done.
Switch off and let it cool.
Grind it to a smooth paste without adding water.
Enjoy with dosa, idli or rice.
