Ingredients
1 cup chana dal or also known Bengal gram
1 tablespoons rice flour
1 cup potatoes boiled peeled and mashed
1 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 teaspoons fennel seeds crushed
1 teaspoon mango powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper crushed
1/8 teaspoon asafetida
1 tablespoon ginger paste
2 tablespoons finely chopped green chilies
1/4 cup cilantro finely chopped
Also need oil to fry

your recipes are wonderful. … but being a south Indian, for authentic Masala vada; no potato, no pepper, no mango powder, but fennel leaves are added which is optional

Ma'am, as an South Indian we use Grated Coconut instead of Potatoes and we add Ginger too.Made during Festivals and special occasions. It's called ombode( without onions).Masal vade with onions are made casually.
