Ingredients

1 cup chana dal or also known Bengal gram
1 tablespoons rice flour
1 cup potatoes boiled peeled and mashed
1 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 teaspoons fennel seeds crushed
1 teaspoon mango powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper crushed
1/8 teaspoon asafetida
1 tablespoon ginger paste
2 tablespoons finely chopped green chilies
1/4 cup cilantro finely chopped
Also need oil to fry

  • your recipes are wonderful. … but being a south Indian, for authentic Masala vada; no potato, no pepper, no mango powder, but fennel leaves are added which is optional

  • Ma'am, as an South Indian we use Grated Coconut instead of Potatoes and we add Ginger too.Made during Festivals and special occasions. It's called ombode( without onions).Masal vade with onions are made casually.
