Ingredients:
For Gatte
• 2 cups besan, gram flour
• 4 tablespoons oil
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon red chili powder, adjust to taste
• 1/8 teaspoon asafetida, hing, asafetida is gluten free spice, but asafetida powder contains some wheat flour, gluten free asafetida, is available on amazon.
· For Gravy
• 3 tablespoons oil
• 1/8 teaspoon asafetida, hing
• 1 teaspoon fennel seeds, saunf
• 2 bay leaves, tejpat
• 2 dry red chilies
• ½ teaspoon red chili powder
• 1/2 teaspoon turmeric, haldi
• 1 tablespoon coriander powder, dhania
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 tablespoon Kasuri Methi, dry fenugreek leaves
• 1 teaspoon mango powder, amchoor
• 1/2 teaspoon garam masala

  • Hi — wouldn't the dough just cook up in the gravy? Do you really need the pre-boiling step? I've seen other besan dumpling dishes, where the dough is just dropped by the spoonful into a simmering sauce. Thanks.
