Puran Poli / Obbattu
INGREDIENTS
Chiroti Rawa – 1 Cup
Salt – A Pinch
Ghee – 1 1/2 Tsps
Oil – 1/4 Cup
Turmeric Powder – A Pinch
Water – As Required
Ghee – As Required
For Pooranam/Pooran:
Bengal Gram Dhal (cooked) – 1 Cup
Grated Jaggery – 1 1/4 Cup
Cardamom Powder – 2 Pinches
METHOD
1. Mix salt, ghee, little turmeric powder to chiroti rawa and blend well with finger tips.
2. Add water, knead to a smooth elastic dough.
3. Mix oil and keep kneading until it gets absorbed into the dough.
4. Pressure cook dhal in enough water to one whistle.
5. Strain water, grind to smooth paste, adding jaggery at the end. Mix cardamom powder and make lemon sized balls from this pooranam. If it becomes little soggy, fry it in a dry kadai for few minutes to make it thick.
6. Prepare small lemon sized balls from the rawa dough, roll out to a thick small circle, using maida for dusting.
7. Place the stuffing in the centre, close well, roll out to a thick circle.
8. Toast on a tawa using ghee. Serve hot with more melted ghee on top.
