Idli Uppuma (Seeyali) – Sour & Spicy
INGREDIENTS
Idli – 8
Sliced Onions – 1 Cup
Thick Tamarind Extract – 1/4 Cup
Salt – To Taste
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 Tsp
Grated Jaggery – 1 Tblsp
Sambhar Powder – 1 Tsp
Oil – For Frying
For Tampering:
Mustard Seeds – 1/2 Tsp
Urad Dhal (Black Gram Dhal) – 1 Tsp
Bengal Gram Dhal – 1 1/2 Tsps
Broken Cashewnuts
Curry Leaves – 1 Spring
METHOD
1. Dice idlis to 1 inch squares using a knief or kitchen scissors.
2. Heat oil, add tempering ingredients and then sliced onion.
3. Saute for 2-3 minutes, pour tamarind extract and add salt, jaggery, turmeric powder and sambhar powder.
4. Mix gently in medium heat. When it turns thick, add diced idlis.
5. Stir fry for few more minutes. Serve hot.
