Today’s recipe is South India special Pongal. This is a traditional dish of South India. As in Maharashtra, we make tilachi poli or tilgul vadi for Sankrant, south Indians make Pongal!! There are different methods to make this recipe. Also there are two versions of it, one is sweet and savory. Today we are making sweet version of it. It is typically known as Sakkarai Pongal or Chakkara Pongal. It is sweet and has creamy texture like porridge. This Pongal is flavored with cardamon, cashew nuts and ghee. The main ingredients are rice and lentils. South Indians offer Pongal as naivedyam to God on auspicious day or festivals. We already have seen different Marathi Makar Sankrant special recipes. This is yet another south Indian recipe addition to the list. You can try this recipe at home and drop a comment for me. Do not forget to like, share and subscribe.

Ingredients:
• 1/2 cup broken Rice
• 2 tbsp Moong dal
• 5-6 tsp Ghee
• 10~15 Cashew nuts
• 10~15 Almonds
• 2 tsp Charoli
• 2 tbsp black Raisins
• 2 cups Water
• 1/2 cup Gudh / Jaggery
• 2-3 tsp Ghee
• Cardamom powder

Method:
• Wash rice and moong dal well together 3-4 times and keep it aside.
• Heat up a pan on medium heat and add ghee.
• Add cashew nuts, almonds and charoli and fry well util it gets light golden color.
• Add black raisins and fry well together.
• Take the fried dry nuts out into a dish.
• In the same ghee add washed rice and dal and fry it together for about a minute.
• Add water and mix well.
• Cook it well for about 15-20 minutes.
• Mix well and mash at the regular intervals while it is cooking.
• Add jaggery and mix well.
• You can use sugar in place of jaggery or half jaggery and half sugar too.
• Continue cooking until gudh melts.
• You can add 1 cup milk now if you want.
• You can add milk while serving.
• Add the fried dry nuts and ghee and mix well.
• Add cardamom powder and mix well.
• Turn off the gas and Pongal is ready.
