Modakanchi bhaji is a traditional Maharashtrian recipe. This is specially made in Vidarbha. This can be a good option if you have no sabzi at home. It tastes just yummy. Do try this recipe at home and drop a comment for me. You also can like, share and subscribe.

Ingredients:
For Stuffing:
• 1 tbsp Poppy seeds
• 1 cup dry shredded Coconut
• 1/2 tsp Vaidarbhiya Kala masala
• 1/2 tsp Red chili powder
• Salt to taste
• Finely chopped Coriander leaves
Masala for Gravy:
• 1 tsp Oil
• 2 medium size sliced Onions
• 1/2” Ginger chopped
• 5-7 Garlic cloves
• 2 tbsp dry shredded Coconut
• Coriander leaves
For Modak:
• 1 cup Besan
• 1/2 cup Wheat flour
• Salt to taste
• 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
For Modakanchi Bhaji:
• Oil
• 1 tsp Kala masala
• 1 tsp Red chili powder
• Hot water
• Salt to taste

Method:
For Stuffing:
• Heat up a pan on medium heat.
• Add poppy seeds and roast them until these turn light golden.
• When poppy seeds begin to turn light golden add dry coconut and
roast until it turns light golden.
• Turn off the gas and add kala masala, red chili powder, salt to
taste, coriander leaves and mix well.
• You can add any other kala masala available with you instead of
Vaidarbhiya kala masala.
• Stuffing is already.
Masala for Gravy:
• Heat up oil in the same pan. Add sliced onion, ginger, garlic
cloves and fry until it turns nice golden.
• When onion begins to turn light golden add dry coconut and mix
well.
• Fry for another 3-4 minutes.
• Turn off the gas and let the mixture cool down a little.
• Transfer the mixture into a blender jar and add coriander leaves.
• Blend the masala well using minimum water. Masala for gravy is
already.
For Modak:
• Take besan into a dish and add wheat flour, salt to taste, turmeric
powder.
• Mix well and add a little water at a time to make a little thick
dough.
• You can add a little oil if you want.
• When the dough is about to be kneaded add a little oil to make it
nice and even.
• Cover and rest for about 10 minutes.
• Take the dough and knead it again to make it smooth.
• Take a small ball of dough and knead it into a small puri.
• You can spread a little oil at the base if you want.
• Make petals as we make for ukadiche modak.
• Fill the stuffing and close the modak.
For Modakanchi Bhaji:
• Heat up oil in a pan.
• When oil is enough add blended masala and fry it for about 2-3
minutes.
• Add kala masala, red chili powder and mix well.
• Fry the masala for another 2-3 minutes until it releases oil.
• When masala begins to release oil add hot water.
• Add salt to taste and mix well.
• The consistency of the gravy should be a little runny.
• As modak cook the gravy thickens up.
• Add modak, cover and cook on medium heat for about 15-20
minutes.
• Turn off the gas and modakanch bhaji is already.
• You can have this bhaji with chapatti, bhakari or rice too.
