There was no Saraswathy poojai in Tamil country for longtome. There was this Eattu poojai…means poojai for palm leaf script. Even now in southern tamil nadu Eattu poojai coincides with Saraswathy poojai. The purpose of the Eattu (palmleaf script) is to rewrite the old plam.leaf script into new palm leaf script so that it can be stored without damages due to wear and tear. So during Eattu poojai day all Eattu or Aedu were arranged and decorated and pooja performed… Even now there is a street in Madurai called Eluthanikara St. Means the people on that street used to be writer on the palm.leaf ….Eluthani means writing stylus or nail…
