Gujarati Dalwada is a famous tea time snack made especially during the rains. Gujarati Dalwada has its origin in Ahmedabad Gujarat where it is available at tea joints, public stations, etc. It is made from Split Green Lentils and Split Yellow Lentils and small amounts of dehusked black lentil and rice along with spices. In other parts of India the Dalwada or Dalvada are made using different lentils like Bengal gram (Chana Dal Vada) or deshusked black lentils (urad dal Medu Vada). For making Dalwada, lentils are soaked and then coarsely grounded together and then spices are added and then small fritters / vadas are made using hand or spoon and it is deep fried in hot oil. Dalwada are served hot with onions, deep fried cut green chillies and chutney. Though it is deep fried the lentils do make it a healthy snack option. Do make this wonderful snack this monsoon!
