Summer is awesome because we can make yummy dishes with green mangoes. Today, let’s learn about one such dish: Mamidikaya Pappu Charu, a tasty green mango lentil soup.
Here I used 1 small green mango
Peel the green mango.
To a pressure cooker, add 1/2 cup red gram and wash it.
Add the peeled green mango, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 2 cups water and cook for 3-4 whistles.
Let the cooker cool down and mash everything down.
Add water as needed and mash.
Add salt to taste, curry leaves, 4-5 slit green chilies and simmer for 4-5 minutes.
In the meantime, let’s prepare masala powder.
Heat 1 tbsp Bengal gram in a pan.
Fry on low flame.
Add 1 tbsp coriander seeds and fry till it gives out a nice aroma.
Add 4-5 dried chilies and fry till they change color.
Add 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds, 1/4 tsp peppercorns and cut off the stove.
Let the fried ingredients cool down and grind into a fine powder.
Lentil soup is simmered now.
Add the prepared powder as desired and mix.
Simmer for 2-3 minutes and add coriander leaves.
Let’s prepare the tempering now.
Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan.
Add 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, 2-3 dried chilies and fry.
Add 3-4 crushed garlic cloves and fry.
Add curry leaves and cut off the stove.
Mix this with the mango lentil soup.
Mamidikaya pappu charu or green mango lentil soup is ready to serve!
As Mangoes are seasonal fruit and which we can see them mostly in summer. We use Mangoes in different dishes and the taste of those dishes also make unique. INGREDIENTS For Mamidikaya Pappu Chaaru(మామిడికాయ పప్పు చారు)
Small green mango
Red gram (toor dal) – 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Water – 2 cups
Salt – to taste
Curry leaves
Slit green chilies – 4-5
Bengal gram (chana dal) – 1 tbsp
Coriander seeds – 1 tbsp
Dried chilies – 4-5
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds – 1/2 tsp
Peppercorns – 1/4 tsp
Coriander leaves
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Dried chilies – 2-3
Garlic cloves – 3-4
