Nattu Kozhi Kuzhambu | Country Chicken Curry

Ingredients

Nattu Kozhi (Country Chicken) – 1 whole chicken
Turmeric powder – 1/2 Tsp
Chili powder – 1 Tbsp
Rock salt – 2 Tsp
Gingelly Oil – 2 Tbsp
Shallots – 1 cup
Green chili – 2 nos
Ginger Garlic paste – 2 Tsp
Curry leaves
Tomato – 2 nos
Red Chili powder – 2 Tbsp
Water – 2 1/2 cups

To Make Masala Paste
Coriander seeds – 2 Tbsp
Poppy seeds – 1/2 Tbsp
Cinnamon – 1 no.
Cardamom – 3 nos
Clove – 5 nos
Peppercorn – 1/2 Tsp
Cumin seeds – 1/2 Tbsp
Coconut – 1/2 cup
Water

Method

1. Dry roast all the ingredients for the masala paste
2. Cool them and grind it to a fine powder
3. Add coconut and water and grind it to a masala paste
4. Take the country chicken in a bowl, add turmeric powder, chili powder, salt and let it marinate for 20 mins
5. Heat a pan with gingelly oil, add shallots, green chilies and saute till they are golden brown
6. Add ginger garlic paste, curry leaves and saute them well
7. Add tomatoes and cook them till they are soft
8. Add chili powder and give it a mix, add the marinated chicken pieces
9. Add enough water and cover and cook for 30 mins
10. Add the masala paste and cook them again for 15 mins
11. Turn off the stove and serve it hot with steamed rice
