Girmit | ಗಿರ್ಮಿಟ್ | Churmura girmit recipe | mandakki upkari | Masala Puffed Rice

Girmit recipe is a very popular street food from North Karnataka prepared from puffed rice or churmuri or murmura. This snack recipe is extremely popular in Hubli-Dharwad region of Karnataka also know as masala puffed rice or north karnataka mandakki upkari in other places.Its usually eaten with Menasinakayi bajji.

Ingredients – ಸಾಮಗ್ರಿಗಳು – सामग्रियां :

Oil – ಎಣ್ಣೆ – तेल – 6 tbs
Peanuts – ಶೇಂಗಾ/ಕಡಲೆಬೀಜ – मूंगफली – 4 tbs
Mustard Seeds – ಸಾಸಿವೆ – सरसों के बीज – 1 tbs
Cumin Seeds – ಜೀರಿಗೆ – जीरा – 1 tbs
Curry Leaves – ಕರಿಬೇವು – करी पत्ता – 2 tbs, chopped
Green Chili – ಹಸಿರು ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ – हरी मिर्च – 2, finely chopped
Asafoetida – ಹಿಂಗ್ – हींग – 1 pinch
Onion – ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ – प्याज – 1.5, finely chopped
Salt – ಉಪ್ಪು – नमक – to taste
Turmeric Powder – ಅರಿಶಿನ ಪುಡಿ – हल्दी – 1/2 tbs
Tamarind Extract – ಹುಣಸೆಹಣ್ಣಿನ ರಸ – इमली का रस – 1 cup
Jaggery – ಬೆಲ್ಲ – गुड़ – 1 tbs
Puffed Rice – ಮಂಡಕ್ಕಿ/ಕಡ್ಲೆಪುರಿ – मुरमुरे – 2 bowls
Tomato – ಟೊಮೆಟೊ –  टमाटर – 1, finely chopped
Coriander/Cilantro – ಕೊತ್ತಂಬರಿ – धनिया – chopped
Roasted Gram/Fried Gram Powder – ಹುರಿಗಡಲೆ/ಪುಟಾಣಿ ಪುಡಿ – भुनी चना दाल पाउडर – 2 tbs
Thin Sev – ತೆಳುವಾದ ಸೆವ್ – पतली सेव – 1/2 cup
