Hello everybody and welcome to my channel cooking addiction. today i will be preparing a Goan sweet called Patoleo. it is a dish which is mostly prepared on the western coast of India and other Indian Ocean islands. It is made of grated coconut, rice and jaggery, and cooked by wrapping and steaming in turmeric leaves
i’m specially preparing it for feast of the assumption of the blessed virgin Mary. It is a feast held dearly by the Goan Catholic community, as many villages across Goa celebrate Konsâcheñ fest (harvest festival) on this day and Patoleo are the star dish of the celebration. so to make this you will need,
Ingredients & Quantity
Goan red rice (Soaked overnight) – 1/2 Kg
Coconut (Grated) – 2 Nos
Goan coconut jaggery – 1/4 Kg
Cardamon powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric leaves – 4 -5
Salt – 1 tsp
Water – 1/2 cup
Method,
1) wash and clean the turmeric leaves.
2) mix the grated coconut with coconut Jaggery and cardamon powder.
3) wash and soak the rice overnight for best results, grind the rice into thick dough with little water.
4) take a bit of the rice dough place it on the center of the leaf and spread evenly so the leaf.
5) After the dough is completely coated over the leaf, ad the filling in the center of the leaf.
6) Fold the leaf and press the edge to seal it.
7) Place these in a steamer and steam for 20 mins. remove the leaf once cooked and enjoy.
