Goan Xacuti Masala | How to Make Xacuti Masala | Indian Masala | Goan Cuisine | Cooking Addiction.

Description :

A traditional favourite in Goa, India Xacuti is well loved and for good reason. Meat, Chicken, Fish or even veggies are simmered is a blend of aromatic whole roasted spices like red chillies, cumin, fennel, coriander, cloves, poppy seeds, cinnamon, cardamom & star anise and blended with turmeric, roasted onion, garlic and coconut. This masala or spice paste can be made ahead and stored till needed.

Ingredients & Method

Dried Red Button chillies – 6 – 10
Ginger – 1 inch
Garlic – 5 Cloves
Coconut (Grated) – 1 medium sized
Onion (Chopped) – 1
Cloves – 3
Cinnamon – 2 inch
Black Peppercorns – 1/2 tsp
Poppy seeds – 1 tbsp
Whole turmeric – 1 inch
Mace – 1
fennel seeds – 1 tsp
Nutmeg – 1/4 tsp
Green cardamon – 3
Star anise – 1
Corriander seeds – 1 tbsp
Water 30 ml
Coconut oil – 1 tsp

Method,
1) Dry roast all the spices till you get nice aroma out of it.
2) Fry Onion, garlic & Ginger with 1 tsp of coconut oil till slightly changes its color.
3) Roast the grated coconut till it turns slightly turns golden brown, let it cool for some time.
4) Place all the roasted spices on the grinding stone and start grinding it using water.
5) Then add the fried onion, garlic & ginger and continue grinding.
6) Finally the roasted coconut and grind it into fine paste.
7) If your using mixer you can add all the roasted ingredients together and grind it into fine paste.
8) Button chilies are slightly spicy so if your’ll don’t like spicy, use only 6 chilies and if your’ll are not getting this variety your’ll can use kashmiri chilies as well.
9) This masala can be used with meat, fish and vegetables.
