Cabbage Foogath, or fugad de repolho, is a staple vegetable and a favorite of all Goans. This recipe is incredibly easy to prepare, cozy, and delicious due to how nicely the flavors of coconut and cabbage meld!
Ingredients & Quantity
* Cabbage (shredded) – 01 kg (approx)
* Onions (sliced) – 02 nos
* Green Chili – 01 no
* Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
* Coconut (freshly grated) – 1/2 cup
* Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
* Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
* Coconut oil – 2 tbsp
* Salt – 1/4 tsp
* Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Instructions
1) Wash and shred the cabbage, slice the onions, and cut the chili.
2) In a vessel heat, coconut oil, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and curryy leaves, allow to Splutter.
3) Add onions, green chili, and saute till onions turn translucent.
4) Add salt & turmeric powder and mix for a few mins.
5) Add cabbage and little water to prevent cabbage from burning. cover the lid and cook for 10 mins on medium to low heat.
6) Once the cabbage shrinks, give a mix and cook for more than 5 mins until the cabbage is cooked.
7) Finally, add freshly grated coconut and mix well. Cook for a minute and take it off the heat.
8)Serve hot
