Shows how to prepare vellayappam/Kerala palappam
Ingredients:
raw rice(sona masoori/ponni rice/idly rice)idly rice-2 cup
grated coconut-1 cup
cooked rice-3 tbsp
sugar-2 tbsp/as per taste
yeast- 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp
salt-as per taste(should be fresh)
water as required
Method:
wash & soak the raw rice for 4 to 5 hours
After 4 hrs grind well all the ingredients & make a smooth batter.tThe batter should be watery like Dosa batter consistency.Keep the batter in a large container for about 3 to 4 hrs for fermentation(Time depends on the climate).After fermentation the volume of the batter is increased & you can cook appam.Use ‘Appa Chatti’ or Non stick kadai with lid.First heat the Appa Chatti in high flame and then turn to medium flame, pour a laddle of batter,rotate the chatti in one direction,cover the lid, cook for about 1 minute.Appam is ready. ENJOY!!!
