We’ve made Bohri food before on this channel. We find Bohri cuisine a lot of fun to cook and eat. If you did not know, the Bohras are a small community in Calcutta—they have a bigger presence in places like Bombay and Gujarat. Many of us non-Bohris don’t actually get to eat Bohri food—unless, of course, we are lucky to have a friend from the community. Bohri food is nearly impossible to find in restaurants in Calcutta.

Since we are in the month of Ramzan, we thought we will show you some fun things to make from the Bohri cuisine. We have a good mix of easy, elaborate, vegetarian and meat dishes—so there should be something for everyone.

Today we are making dal samosa, which is a variation of the keema samosa we already have on our channel, lagan ni seekh—kind of like a stove-top meatloaf, alu vada, and a milk based drink called hariro.

This was filmed on Sunday, 3rd May.

Recipes in this episode:
– Lagan ni seekh
– Dal na samosa
– Alu vada
– Hariro

  • I was in Kolkata for two years. Not a surprise that I found Bengali foods are charming..starting from cooking process to eating procedure..what to eat when in lunch. And it's been 4 years & I almost forgot the procedure. Could you pls pls elaborate it with a new video? I will be eagerly waiting for it.

  • "The oil should be hot, so that the outside browns quickly, before the insides can get hot. Otherwise the steam generated by the filling, will make the vadas burst." – this was a good new learning for me (y) 🙂
