Upsaaru is prepared in many ways in this video I have prepared using Togarikaalu and Sabakki Soppu. Upsaaru, also known as Uppesaru, a kind of sambar in South India mainly in southern part of Karnataka state. It is a traditional food of South Karnataka. Upsaaru & Mudde is a staple food of farmers of Karnataka, especially Mysore/Mandya region.
Ingredients Needed are
Togari Kaaly/ Pigeon pea – 1/2 kg
Sabbaki Soppu/ Dil Leaves
Green chillies – 4
Salt
Water
For preparing Khara
Garlic Pods – 8
Pepper corns – 10
Jeera – 1/2 tsp
Few coriander leaves
Tamrind
Grated coconut – 1 tbsp
Cooked chilly and kaalu
For tempering
Mustard seeds
Jeera
Onion – 1
Garlic
Few curry leaves
Few coriander leaves
Curry Leaves
Green chillies
Grated coconut
Oil
