This video explains how to make KattParippu or Kerala parippu Curry.Katti Parippu or Kerala Parippu Curry made with cherupayar or green moong dal is one of the main dishes served with Vishu and Onam Sadya.Its tastes best with some steamed hot rice,parippu curry,pappadam and a few drops of ghee.So here is the recipe for Katti Parippu or Kerala parippu Curry
See the ingredients
Cherupayar Parippu-1 1/2 cup
Green chilli-2
Dry red chilli-2
Turmeric powder-1/2 tspn
Curry leaves -few
Coconut oil-2 tspn
Salt
Water-2 1/2 cup(apprx)
To grind
Coconut-1/2 cup to 3/4 cup
Cumin seeds-1/2 tspn
For tempering
Coconut oil
Mustard seeds-1/2 tspn
Small Onion-2
Curry leaves
Gently crush cherupayar using your blender or mixie.Dry roast it till you get a nice roasted smell.Wash the hot cherupayar in water just once.
Add the washed cherupayar to a pressure cooker.Also add green chillies,dry red chilli,turmeric powder,curry leaves,coconut oil and salt.Add water and cook for 3 whistles in medium flame.Then simmer the flame to low and keep for 15 mints.
Grind together coconut and cumin seeds adding little water to a smooth paste.Add this to the cooked parippu.Also add half cup of water.Cook till the raw smell of coconut goes.Keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan.Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.Add small onion and let them become light brown.Finally add curry leaves.
Pour this tempering into the parippu.
Delicious Kerala parippu curry is ready to serve.Enjoy with hot rice,pappadam and ghee ?
