How to make Chemmeen Theeyal|Easy Prawns Theeyal|Konju Theeyal|ചെമ്മീൻ തീയൽ |കൊഞ്ചു തീയൽ

This video explains how to make Chemmeen Theeyal or Prawns theeyal .Prawns Theeyal or Konju Theeyal is a Kerala style curry in which prawns or chemmeen is cooked in roasted coconut gravy.It is an excellent side dish for rice.So here is the recipe for easy prawns theeyal.

നല്ല നാടൻ ചെമ്മീൻ തീയൽ ആർക്കാണ് ഇഷ്ടമല്ലാത്തത്.ചൂട് ചോറിനൊപ്പം കഴിക്കാൻ അടിപൊളി കൊഞ്ചു തീയൽ
See the ingredients below
Chemmeen/prawns-about 30
small onion-2 chopped
green chilli-2
tomato-1 medium (optional)
Turmeric powder-1/2 tspn
Kashmiri red chilli powder-4 tspn
Coriander powder-6 tspn
Roasted and powdered coconut-I always make this in bulk and keep in fridge.Just roast 1 fresh coconut grated along with 2 sprigs of curry leaves.Roast till golden brown.Then powder it in blender.You can keep this in the fridge for about 3 months.Use desired quantity of this powder in curries.For this theeyal i used 2 tablespoon of this roasted powder.

If you are making fresh powder,just roast 1/2 cup of grated coconut with 4 or 5 curry leaves.and grind it adding some water.Use in the theeyal.

Tamarind-a gooseberry sized ball(take juice)
Mustard seeds
Fenugreek seeds
Curry leaves
Salt

Heat some oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and fenugreek eeds.Then add small onion,green chillies and curry leaves.Saute till soft.Add tomatoes and let them become soft.Add in powders.Saute till the raw smell goes.Add tamarind water and mix well.To this add enough water .Then add the roasted coconut powder or paste.
Let it come to boil.Then add chemmeen and salt.Cover and cook for 10 mints.

Delicious chemmeen theeyal is ready to serve.?
