கீரை போண்டா / Keerai Bonda / Healthy snacks recipe / Spinach Bonda in tamil

Ingredients
Keerai / Spinach – 1/2 bunch (finely chopped)
Besan flour – 1 cup
Corn flour – 1/4 cup
Onion – 2 nos (finely chopped)
Ginger – 1/2 inch piece (finely chopped)
Green chilies – 2 nos (finely chopped)
Coriander leaves – 5 tbsp (finely chopped)
Curry leaves – 2 spring (finely chopped)
Fennel seeds – 2 tsp
Red chili powder – 2 tsp
Baking Soda – ¼ tsp (optional)
Salt – to taste
Oil – to deep fry
Method:
1. In a big bowl place the the chick pea flour and corn flour, red chili powder, fennel seeds and salt mix it well.
2. Now add chopped greens, onions, green chilies, ginger. Curry leaves and coriander leaves mix well with your hands. The flours would absorb the moisture if any and the mixture would look dry and crumbly.
3. Scoop a handful of water and sprinkle on top with baking soda mix well with your hands. The mixture would come together like a dough. Make small lemon size balls and arrange on a plate.
4. Heat oil in a kadai . When sufficiently hot drop the balls one after the other from the sides of the kadai into the hot oil. Cook over medium flame till the sizzling sound of the oil stops and the balls get cooked to golden brown. Drain on an absorbent paper.
5. Our keerai bonda is ready to eat. Serve hot with coconut chutney.
Notes:
• I used Arai keerai / Amaranth leaves to make this bonda. Siru keerai and venthaya keerai will also suit well.
