Healthy banana stem chutney/Arokyamana vazhai thandu chutney/வாழை தண்டு சட்னி/Vazhai thandu chutney
Description :
Ingredients:
• 1 cup chopped banana stem
• 1/4 cup coconut
• ¼ cup chana dal
• 6 dried red chillies
• A gooseberry sized tamarind
• Salt to taste
• Oil – 1 tbsp
• Water – ¼ cup
For seasoning:
• 2 tbsp oil
• 1 tsp mustard seeds
• 1 tsp cumin seeds
• 1 tsp urad dal
• 1 tsp chana dal
• 1 leaflet of curry leaves
• 3 dried red chilli
• ¼ tsp hing

Method:
1. Dice banana stem into small pieces. Dip it in a bowl of water to prevent their discoloration & to remove any bitterness present.
2. Heat a heavy bottomed pan with oil, add chana dal, dried red chilies and sauté well. Add banana stem, tamarind, curry leaves, coconut and salt sauté for 3 minutes on low flame.
3. Once it is done, let it cool down add water and grind it into a smooth paste. Keep it aside..
4. In order to make the seasoning, heat oil in a kadai, temper the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, hing, and dry red chili and add this seasoning to the chutney & mix well.
5. Our healthy banana stem chutney is ready. Serve as a side dish for dosa & idli.
