Ingredients:
Refined oil – 1/2 cup
Rice flour – 1/2 cup
Gram flour (kadalai maavu / besan) – 1cup
Onion – 3 tablespoons (finely chopped)
ginger – 1 small piece (about 2 inches in size)
green chillies – 1 teaspoon (finely chopped)
Baking soda / Soda salt – 1/8 teaspoon
salt – 3/4 teaspoon
fennel powder (perunjeeragam/sombu powder) – 3/4 teaspoon
curry leaves – few (finely chopped)

Method:
1. Crush the ginger well (avoid grinding it)
2. Mix gram flour, rice flour, fennel powder, salt, baking soda in a large bowl and once it is combined well, add all the other ingredients and mix together.
3. Heat the 1/4 cup of oil in a pan and when it is hot, add it to the prepared mixture, and mix well with a spoon.
4.Next add water as required, 2 tablespoons at a time, making sure not to add too much of water. The mixture should be in a crumbly texture with not much water.
5. Heat oil in a pan and add the prepared mixture using a spoon or hand. Try to drop into small pieces, as big pieces may take long time to get cooked inside and may be raw in the middle and fry till golden brown in medium flame and remove.
6. Serve hot with tea during evening time.
