Seemebadane kayi chutney

2 seemebadane kayi / chayote squash
2 tsp oil
1/2 cup grated fresh coconut
around 8 green chillies( more or less)
little tamarind soaked in water
little coriander leaves
few curry leaves
1/2 tsp jaggery
2 tbsp hurigadale/ roasted chana
around 1 tsp salt
For seasoning:
1 tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
Pinch of hing(gluten free hing for gluten free option)

  • We get seemebadnekayi very rarely over here, I usually use sippe and make chutney, tried this, it's too good, thanks for the recipe.
    In South India we eat this vegetable almost everyday, it's my favourite vegetable.
    In our ajjis house we had a small patch, where we grew this vegetable by putting a chapra,in the backyard, thumba hechhu beliothe, Dina gidadinda kithkondu freshagi Palya maadi maddi, thinthidvi.
    Agse soppina mara, karibevina soppu Mara, seemebadnekayi balli. Mane hinde ithhu, Dwadashi oottake agase soppu Palya, very important, Illi kelvu vegetables are not available in super market, we get foreign fruits and vegetables…..!
    Whenever we are in South India we buy seemebadnekayi ondu 5,6 kg, mathe fridge itkondu Dina idde adige madhodhu, else if my husband travels abroad, he brings this vegetable, wherever he sees it.
