To Make Lobia Rice
Black Eyed Peas / Lobia – 3/4 Cup
Raw Rice – 1 Cup
Oil – 2 Tbsp
Chana Dal -1 Tsp
Urad Dal – 1 Tsp
Pepper – 1/2 Tsp
Mustard Seeds – 1 Tsp
Cumin Seeds – 1 Tsp
Onion – 3 Nos
Garlic – 6 Cloves
Green Chilli – 4 Nos
Curry Leaves
Salt – 2 Tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 Tsp
Chilli Powder – 1 1/2 Tsp
Cumin Powder – 1 Tsp
Tomato – 3 Nos
Ghee – 1 Tbsp
Coriander Leaves
Water
Method
Start by heating 2 tbsp of oil in a pressure cooker.
Add 1 tsp each of channa dal, urad dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and ½ tsp of peppercorns. Roast until golden and aromatic.
Once the mustard seeds splutter, toss in 3 thinly sliced onions, 4–5 pounded garlic cloves, 4 slit green chilies, and fresh curry leaves. Sauté for 2 minutes.
Add ¾ cup of soaked lobia (black-eyed peas) and mix well.
Season with 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp turmeric powder, 1½ tsp red chili powder, and 1 tsp cumin powder. Stir in 3 finely chopped tomatoes and cook until mushy. Pour in 3 cups of water and bring it to a boil.
Meanwhile, wash 1 cup of raw rice (soaked for an hour). Add it to the boiling mixture, check seasoning, and enhance the flavor with 1 tbsp of ghee and fresh coriander leaves. Pressure cook for 2 whistles.
Let the pressure release naturally, and enjoy soft, flavorful Lobia Rice—perfect for a nutritious lunch or dinner!
