തേങ്ങാ ചേർക്കാതെ കട്ടിയുള്ള ചാറോടു കൂടിയ മീൻകറി | Fish curry without coconut
Description :
Ingredients:
Fish – ½ kg (I used porgy / eri)
Onion – 1 (Thinly sliced)
Ginger – 1 big piece (Crushed)
Garlic – 3 fat cloves (Crushed)
Green chilly – 6+6 (Slit open)
Curry leaves
Cambodge / Kudampuli – 1 (Washed and soaked for 30 minutes)
Tomato – 1 + ½ (Chopped)
Turmeric powder – ½ tbsp
Coriander powder – 1½ tbsp
Red chilly powder – ½ tbsp
Salt
Oil
For tempering:
Coconut oil
Dried red chillies – 2
Onion / Shallots
Curry leaves
Turmeric powder – ¼ tbsp
Steps:
Heat oil in a claypot.
Add onion, ginger, garlic, half of the green chilly and curry leaves.
When the onion becomes soft, lower the flame and add turmeric powder. Sauté till the raw smell goes away.
Add coriander powder and sauté till the raw smell goes away.
Add red chilly powder and sauté till the raw smell goes away.
Add 1 tomato and salt.
Cover and cook on low flame till the tomatoes are done.
Switch off and let it cool.
Once cool, grind it to a smooth paste adding some water.
Transfer it back to the claypot.
Add some more water for the gravy.
Add the remaining ½ tomato and 6 green chillies.
Cover and bring it to a boil on high flame.
Add kudampuli along with the water.
Add fish and salt.
Cook for another 10 minutes.
Switch off once the fish is cooked and the gravy thickens.
Heat oil in a pan for tempering.
You may add mustard seeds.
Add dry red chilly.
Add shallots and curry leaves.
Add turmeric powder and roast on low flame.
Switch off and add this to the curry.
Leave it covered for a minute.
Enjoy the no coconut fish curry with hot rice.
The curry stays good without refrigeration for 3-4 days.
